Gently and thoroughly hand-refined, our Liquid Gold Hemp Seed Oil feels and behaves like walnut or poppy oil, with a silky consistency under the brush. It is very clear and bright, and won’t yellow nearly as much as linseed oils. It is useful in all types or painting, and is particularly beneficial to use with white and light colored paints. A slower drying oil, our Hand Refined Hemp Seed Oil is also ideal for artists who are grinding their own paint from raw pigments and oil, as the paint will not polymerize too quickly in tubes.

Truly a delightful oil, our Hand-Refined Liquid Gold Hemp Seed Oil is exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time, resulting in a lightly thickened oil that is clear and bright. It is a relatively non-yellowing oil that dries rapidly. This oil is extremely versatile. It can be used in combination with a solvent to create a continuum of lean to fat layers for indirect work, or can be added directly to oil paint for alla prima approaches.

Sun Thickened Hemp Seed Oil is in a category of its own, exhibiting properties that are hard to find in any other medium. Fast-drying, imparting controlled flow, brilliant clarity and a satin finish, this is one of our favorite mediums to produce and to use.

Made in small batches, slowly thickened and pre-polymerized, there’s nothing quite like this oil.

A premium painting medium made from traditional hemp seed stand oil that aged (oxygenated & pre-polymerized) for 5 years. Unlike modern commercial slow-drying ‘stand oils’ which become thick due to boiling in absence of oxygen, our traditional stand oil is hand-refined and left to “stand” for 5 years, acquiring an extremely heavy viscosity, with the added attribute of being a rapid drying oil. Our traditional stand oil is mixed with Liquid Gold Hemp Seed Oil to make an extremely versatile painting and glazing medium. Hemp Seed Stand Oil Medium glides off the brush while imparting gloss and optical luminosity. Can be thinned with solvent for early lean layers in indirect techniques, used as the basis for glazing mediums or added directly to oils for alla prima approaches.

A very rare painting medium indeed, it is available in extremely limited quantities, as the true stand oil process can not be rushed. When it’s gone, it’s gone!

Our organic, hand-refined version of a classic painting medium used for centuries in traditional painting methods. Perfect as a basis for glazing mediums, this thickened, pre-polymerized oil imparts gloss, high film strength and rapid-drying properties, reducing the need for added resins in 3-part mediums. Sun thickened linseed oil can be added directly to oil paints in small quantities, or used in combination with a solvent to create a spectrum of lean to fat mixtures for extended, layered techniques. Sun Thickened Linseed Oil can also be used alone or in 3 part mixtures for egg tempera emulsions, bringing its inherent binding strength into delicate, translucent alternating layers of oil & water-phase tempera.

The organic, lightly refined version of a raw oil that became increasingly common in the past many decades, as artists sought after a less processed oil than industrially refined linseed oils. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil possesses a rich, warm color in the bottle that can impart some yellowing to dried paint layers. A medium-drying oil that is useful in a broad range of techniques, particularly alla prima painting or underpainting.
